Giants Bye Week Blues - Plaxico Suspended

It has been reported that WR Plaxico Burress is being suspended for two weeks and will miss the Giants Week five match up against the Seahawks.  Plaxico violated team rules when he didn’t show up for practice or call to say he wouldn’t be there.  Unhappy with Tom Coughlin’s punishment, Plaxico will be appealing the coach’s decision to the players’ association.  The appeal is most likely an attempt to get some of the money he’s going to lose when he doesn’t receive his next two paychecks.

This is a tough break for the 3-0 Giants, but it goes to show that Tom Coughlin treats everyone the same.  It is not like Plaxico doesn’t know the rules, he just didn’t follow them.  You would think after the contract extension he just signed that this type of incident wouldn’t happen.  Maybe he thought because it’s him and it’s a bye week it might get overlooked.  Let’s hope he learned a lesson from this.

Look for Domenik Hixon to start in his place against the Seahawks.  The Giants also brought up WR Taye Biddle from the practice squad.

As a Giant fan I’m fine with the organization suspending Plaxico. If he missed practice and didn’t call, there is no excuse, period.

What bothers me now is seeing Drew Rosenhaus on TV explaining his and Plaxico’s displeasure with the suspension. IMO an agent should never be seen or heard by the general public. There job is to negotiate behind the scenes, not act as a PR spokesman or publicist. Drew is clearly just trying to promote himself here and if I were the Giants I’d tell Plaxico to tell Drew to take a hike or there could be further acts of punishment.

Also it bothers me that Plaxico is allowing his agent to whine about the suspension in public. I’m sure he’s mad, he’ll miss a game and lose pay. But complaining about it on TV does nothing to help him. He should take his suspension like a man and come back ready to play in 3 weeks.

This reminds me a lot of the Boras/Pedro Alvarez situation in Pittsburgh, and I wonder if this is more Plaxico’s doing or Rosenhaus just like that situation had more to do with Scott’s ego than Alvarez.

There has to be something bigger that has been happening for awhile when something like this happens. It really reminds of Ray Emery last year with Ottawa.

Look, Burress is a superstar, and you dont suspend superstars, you put up with them and deal with him, so this must have been pretty major and had to have been going on for awhile.

Good for Coughlin! I like it when a coach is not going to let his players get away with crap like that.
Burress has always been a head case, and thus far Coughlin has kept him at bay. He is able to do this, only because Burress knows that he can’t get away with stuff like this.

The coach needs to be in charge (I would love for Al Davis to know that too)

It seems that every punishment dished recently has been appealed. None of these guys want to be punished or own up to being at fault. I’m sure my employer would love it if I pulled something like this, then had to listen someone on my behalf say it was a miscommunication. I hope it’s water under the bridge and the public can go through the rest of the season without having to see or hear D.R talk about his clients like their choir boys.

Yeah I don’t like to see a guy miss out on a game. What happened to giving the guy a fine and moving on. At the same time Coughlin appears to like making examples out of his players in situations like this. It is a little refreshing to see this kind of action. It sets the tone for the rest of the team from here on out.

You said it Lee, take no crap, no matter how much they make. It’s the motto all coaches should live by.
