Chargers Zap Jets 48-29

Well, that didn’t take long, did it?  The Jets’ season is officially in trouble.

It’s not even the fact that they are 1-2.  That record was not unexpected, considering the fact that they were slated to face the Patriots and the Chargers early on.  No, the real problem here is the manner in which they lost those games.

The Chargers simply blew the doors off the game and put it out of reach even before the halftime gun sounded.  They came out as the more desperate team, buoyed by the support of a raucous home field crowd and didn’t let an early Jets interception disrupt their rythym.  LadDainian Tomlinson scored twice and Phillips Rivers tossed three touchdown passes to pace San Diego.  Brett Favre also threw three TD’s in a losing effort.

Jets Analysis:

Offense:  Favre was constantly harassed, throwing two interceptions and being sacked three times…The Jets could not establish a running game, partly due to the score and partly due to being shut down by the Chargers…WR Jerricho Cotchery hauled in 10 passes…Rookie TE Dustin Keller had a nice game, recording his first NFL touchdown.

Defense:  Other than CB David Barrett picking off Phillip Rivers and scoring a touchdown, there were no defensive highlights for New York…The defensive line was ineffectual, allowing the Chargers 108 yards on the ground plus two touchdowns…The Jets did not sack Rivers and he was rarely pressured…The defensive backfield did not offer much to be happy about, despite the early interception

Overall:  Granted, San Diego is one of the better teams the Jets will face this year and, given the circumstances surrounding the game, Gang Green was up against it in this one.  However, the defense has not improved at all from last year and, considering that was a main source of their downfall, remains a very troubling issue.

I gotta agree. I thought the Jets had big things in store when Brady went down, but I really don’t like the look of this football team right now

I can understand why Jets fans would be alarmed after the performance we saw last night, but I still think this team has a very good opportunity to turn their season around.

The Jets have an opportunity with their next four games against the Cardinals, Bengals, Raiders and Chiefs. I don’t think the Jets win all of these games, but I could easily seeing them take three out of four.

I don’t think that any team can go from 4-12 one year, and have high expectations to make the playoffs the next. Which would be a 9-7 season at worst.
The Raiders and the Jets are both coming off 4-12 seasons, and I think that having a goal of anything more then 8-8 is somewhat unrealistic.
Your Jets will start to click eventually, but there are far too may holes to expect greatness.
The next 4 games are weak ones, and if they don’t get at least half of them as wins, then I would be truly scared. Until then, we will see.

Honestly, I see the Cards knocking off NY this weekend. Warner cost the Cards the game and he knows it. I dont see the Jets being able to contain Boldin an Fitz. Just my 2 cents.

If the Jets can somehow fix a few things on defense, most importantly their secondary they can knock off the Cards. But if they dont and on a short week, I see the Cards offense having their way with the Jets defense.
