UFC Fight Night 15

September 17 marks the start of another season of The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV and, as has become custom for the season premiere, we will be treated to another free night of live fights airing from 8 to 10 pm just before the start of this season. The Fight Night card is as follows:
Main event:
155 lbs.: Nate Diaz (9-2) vs. Josh Neer (24-6-1)
Main card (Televised):
155 lbs.: Clay Guida (23-9) vs. Mac Danzig (18-4-1)
185 lbs.: Ed Herman (14-6) vs. Alan Belcher (12-5)
205 lbs.: Houston Alexander (8-3) vs. Eric Schafer (9-3-2)
Under card (May not be broadcast):
185 lbs.: Alessio Sakara (12-7) vs. Joe Vedepo (7-1
185 lbs.: Ryan Jensen (13-4) vs. Wilson Gouveia (10-5)
155 lbs.: Joe Lauzon (16-4) vs. Kyle Bradley (13-5)
205 lbs.: Brad Morris (9-3) vs. Jason Brilz (15-1-1)
185 lbs.: Drew McFedries (7-3) vs. Mike Massenzio (10-2)
185 lbs.: Rob Kimmons (21-3) vs. Dan Miller (8-1)
Though at first glance this card may not appear to have the star power of past cards and may not seem to feature any compelling match-ups, I believe that this is not the case. One of my personal favorite fighters in the UFC, Joe Lauzon, will be looking to rebound from his second round loss to Kenny Florian and get back to his winning ways tomorrow night. The always entertaining Clay Guida never seems to disappoint and is truly a fan favorite who seems to be on the cusp of stardom in the UFC if only he could consistently put together wins. And who can forget about Nate Diaz after his impressive victory over Kurt Pellegrino via triangle choke? And this man did it while flexing and letting his opponent know exactly what he thinks of him by using his middle fingers to deliver the message.Â
I’m not one for the acts of unsportsmanship in mixed martial arts, but even I can see the hilarity in that submission.Â
And we also have the spectacular knockout artist, Houston Alexander, in action in his home state of Nebraska. As is the case with my taste in music, I enjoy artists who show a great deal of versatility in their genre of choice and, as a knockout artist, Houston certainly can show he can play both sides. After bursting onto the scene by unexpectedly putting Keith Jardine viciously to sleep and following that up with another thrilling knockout of Alessio Sakara, Alexander himself has been the one on the receiving end of well placed punches in his last two fights.
To make this fight even more interesting, Dana White has already stated what is at stake for the hometown favorite tomorrow night.
“There’s no doubt about that,” White said. “He needs a way. He desperately needs a win. Another loss and he’s going to have to go out and start working his way back up to the UFC.”Â
And all this after Houston recently signed a 5-fight contract extension. This is definitely a card to get excited for and, best of all, the price is right.
Don’t miss it folks..

Interesting remarks from Dana White regarding Houston Alexander. Regardless, I will be tuned in to see how it all plays out!

I hope the best for Houston tomorrow night. He really is a fan favorite and it would be a shame for his UFC career to come to a halt. I’ll definitely be pulling for him to impress the boss come fight time.

Justin and I actually met Houston Alexander a couple of months ago. Justin did a seminar with him in Mississauga and we went to boston pizza with him afterwards as well. He was a really nice guy, very polite with fans, even teaching a young boy in the restaraunt some punching combinations.
Unfortunately for Houston it was another loss last night. He has one very clear weakness, Jiujitsu. Justin will be able to comment more, but from what i understand he is very against jiujitsu and doesn’t see the point in learning it. I think he may change his mind on that now!

My favourite fight of the night was Clay Guida vs. Mac Danzig. This fight was so fast paced and full of excitement. Danzig is an extremely talented fighter who looked like he was in fantastic shape, unfortunately Guida brought a pace that he just couldn’t keep up with. You could tell by the end of the fight that Danzig was completely overwhelmed and frustrated.
Too bad Clay Guida’s brother was unable to showcase his talent on the premiere of TUF. He was the only fighter on the show who was unable to make weight. I can only imagine his disappointment, but he looked like he was in horrible shape and completely unprepared.

Oh yeah Dana is never shy about saying stuff like that.
