BURRIS NEAR DIETY STAMPS DEFEAT AL’S

Henry Burris showed us why he is the Calgary Stampeder’s Most Valuable Player this season as he threw touchdowns to 5 different receivers. The thing that made it so impressive was that the Stampeders played error-less football. When you do not turn the ball over, you are more than likely going to win the football game.

The defense intercepted Calvillo three times with Anderson, Lysack, and Browner with the picks. The major thing that the defense was able to do was disrupt the timing of Calvillo. The Stamps continuously had a player in Anthony’s face, constantly forcing him to rush his throws.

First Quarter

The Stamps opened the scoring with an monster drive of 107 yards as Burris threw his first touchdown pass of the game to Ralph. The Al’s came back with a drive of their own by Duval at the end of the quarter 7-3.

Second Quarter

Sandro kicked a field goal to give the Stamps 10-3. The Al’s marched down the field goal as it looked like Cavlillo was getting back into the groove, as Imoh ran a nice running play up the middle to tie the game at 10. Let me ask you this: How do you blow a game? Give up two touchdowns in the last minute. Calgary first touchdown was set up by an interception by Browner. The Stamps took over the ball on the Al’s 30 yard line. The Stamps capitalized on a screen pass to Reynolds to put it 17-10. It that wasn’t bad enough, the play of the year happened on the last play of the half. Burris ran all over the plays to avoid being sacked and threw a Hail Mary. A Hail Mary that got answered by Johnston, who somehow out jumped several Al’s defensive halfbacks. That 42 seconds pretty much ended the game for the Al’s. Half time 24-10.

Third Quarter

Cavlillo threw another pick off to Anderson, setting the Stamps up again. A mark of a good team is making their opposition pay for their mistakes. The Stamps took the ball down the field and Burris threw his fourth touchdown of the game to Rambo. Sandro also kicked another field goal. The Stamps lead 34-10. Cavillo had his worst game of the season so far.

Fourth Quarter

Anthony tried his best part of the game as he directed his team to two touchdown drives; one pass to Watkins and one to Cahoon. The problem is that you cannot make up a 24 point lead in 15 minutes. The Al’s will be okay. They ran into a buzzsaw in Burris. Burris also threw his 5th TD pass to Copeland for the final score for the 41-30 Stamps, which kind of flatters the Al’s

Stamps player of the Game

Burris.

Well, of course, who else was I going to pick? Duh! Burris throws 5 touchdowns and 408 yards. He had his best game of this season The most impressive stat was not turning the ball over. I cannot remember the last clean game by the Stamps.

Al’s Player of the Game

Imoh had a great game. 15 carries for 94 yards, He was simply a monster. He is a great looking running back.

Stamps look very good at this point in the season. They could be the team to beat in the West with all the injuries to the Roughies. Nice piece Randy!
