Evan Tanner, UFC’s former middleweight champion, was found dead. Reports are that he went on a roadtrip to “cleanse” himself . He ran out of gas on his motorcycle and succumbed to the heat which was over 115 degrees near Palo Verde, CA.
Tanner was a fighting veterna with a 32-8 record, who had returned to the UFC after time-off to find himself. He lost two fights in a row. In August, Tanner wrote a blog on Spike TV about having an adventure in the desert near his new home in Oceanside, California. Readers of that blog actually were concerned due to his penchant by flying by the seat of his pants in previous outdoor adventures. He followed it up with a blog later in August assuring fans he would have “proper equipment”.
Tanner finally went on that one adventure too many, where the consequence was his his own life.

He reminded me a bit of the fellow from the book and movie “Into the Wild” He had previously taken time off to find himself. Extremely unfortunate, can’t think of much worse of a way to go. RIP, prayers with his family.

Yes, prayers to his family for sure. Very sad how it all ended and at such a young age.

Far too young an age to leave this world!

This is really terrible news. If anyone has followed the life of Evan Tanner they would know that he has long battled personal demons and was truly a great man. He cared about everyone and never was too big to reach out to anyone in need. He wrote about his trip and how that he would be so far out into the desert that any failure to his equipment would result in death.
This is truly sad for all UFC fans, and sports fans in general. It would be great if the UFC could put together a tribute to this great person. I strongly urge you all to read more about this man and see exactly what kind of a person he really was. He will be missed.
