Cowboys steamroll to win in Cleveland

How do I start or shall I say where do I start?

I know what all you Dallas Cowboy fans are already thinking but let’s slow down.  It is a long NFL season,  look no further than the position the New England Patriots are in now without starting QB Tom Brady.  So lets not get ahead of ourselves.  One win doesn’t make a season.

So the Cowboys go into Cleveland to play what everyone (including myself) is hoping to be a contending Browns team this year.  Well the Cowboys made minced meat of the Browns and threw the ball at will, ran the ball at will and beat up a pretty good Browns team 28-10 in the season opener for both teams.

The Cowboys played like they were already in mid-season form.  Dallas QB, Tony Romo was somewhat flawless in going 24 for 32 for 320 yards and 1 TD and 1 INT being his only mistake.

The running game was excellent with first round draft pick Felix Jones getting in 9 carries for 62 yards and his first professional TD.   Felix Jones showed some amazing jump and speed with what will help the Cowboy backfield this season and take away some pressure off the rest of the Cowboy backfield, mainly Marion Barber.  He provided very good balance.

What can I say about the Cowboy passing game?  Romo and the Cowboy passing core were hitting on all cylinders.  My favourite TE Jason Witten hauled in 6 for 96 yards and that is with a dropped pass right in the bread basket.  Romo showed poise in using 7 different receivers and what a throw and catch to WR Terrell Owens for Romo’s only passing TD of the game.

New Cowboy addition Adam Jones was not a huge factor but did comment that this years Cowboy team will be hard to beat.  Adam Jones dropped one return but was a non-factor in terms of game breaking plays.

The Dallas defence ended the game with only one sack but all in all held Cleveland in check both running and passing the ball.
There are definitely aspects that need to be worked out on defense but it’s only Week 1.  Lets see how the defense progresses next week.

So that is Week 1 in Cowboy Nation.  A BIG Cowboy win making all Cowboy fans happy and as Week 2 comes, stayed tuned, the Philadelphia Eagles travel to Dallas for the Cowboy home opener which should be quite the tilt.  Preview blog coming later in the week.

If Dallas continues to give that kind of effort, they will cruise to a conference championship.

Will be an awesome game this Monday night agreed. Both teams do not like each other, this year both teams look very good and both plan on making the post-season so will be some interesting blogs come Tuesday.

Dallas has all of the tools, and they will be an elite team this year, no doubt.
The only concern that I have is that the division is going to be really tough, and as such, the Boys might get warn down come playoff time. Its no excuse, but it makes it that much tougher.
I also think that the Eagles, Packers and the Saints are going to be tough teams in the NFC.

Funny you ask as I was just checking that info out as to Barber’s status. The info I have is that x-rays were negative and well he might be limited as to playing time on the Monday nighter, he will be dressed and playing downs. He will be the Westbrook on the Cowboy sidelines. should be an awesome game and one I am really looking forward to.

I have to say I am a bit disappointed that after this game with the boys we have to wait to the last game of the regular season. Longest stretch I can remember between games.

a little to cocky boss. when will the cowboys play a team with the defensive back field we have and with a banged up barber.

i think it will be a 7 point game or less for whomever wins.

Of course I like the prediction (being the Cowboy blogger and all) but I think the game will be closer when the final buzzer goes. The Boys are in the 7 point FAV so even the odds are giving the Boys a TD edge which I think is more interesting than what the final score will show. Barber not being 100% is another interesting factor and well how many times are they prepared to give Felix Jones the ball. Welcome to the NFL Felix….

Are they mentioning at all their intentions on how they will use barber in the game.

I would have to imagine extra padding around the ribs may not mean much if he take to many hits to that area.

Barber’s status is going to be one full of ??????, last report I got was he is going to be dressed, will be playing some downs but there is pain. Playing the Eagles does not help with both teams really hating each other (I think we can say that word hate with respect to these two teams). Barber’s status puts a lot of pressure on new RB Felix Jones which only puts more meanness into the eyes of the Eagles to really welcome Jones into the NFL. The good thing is Barber gets the extra day to help the healing process but it is said that Barber maybe in playing in some pain for potentially weeks and not days as most Cowboy fans were hoping. Will have to keep an eye on the Cowboys substitutions throughout the game that is forsure. Will hopefully have a better update when I do my pre-game blog later on in the week…..Stantsy….

    Great Blog Lenny.
Although I’m not a big Cowboy fan and haven’t been since 1975 when Drew Pearson stepped out of bounds and they gave him the catch and Dallas the NFC championship over my Vikings. Barring injury it’ll be hard for any NFC team to beat them this season. The team I think that has a good chance of beating the Cowboy’s not just once but twice is the Eagles. McNabb is healthy for the first time in 2 years and has weapons. Westbrook is hard to stop and the defense is again tough. I predict an “upset” this weekend but a close game. Eagles 24 Cowboys 21. Don’t worry Cowboy fans , they’ll still win the division if healthy, and if Tony doesn’t get distracted by Yoko Romo, I mean Jessica, they should get to the Superbowl.
