Ti-Cats fire Charlie Taaffe

According to the Globe and Mail this morning the Hamilton Tiger-Cats will announce that head coach Charlie Taaffe has been fired at a 1 PM press conference this afternoon. This announcement comes as the Ti-Cats sit in the basement of the East Division, again, with a record of 2-8. Over the course of the last two seasons Taaffe held an overall record of 5-21. Offensive co-ordinator Marcel Bellefeuille will take over the Cats on an interim basis.

After the Cats’ worst performance of the season this Saturday, a 35-12 thrashing at the hands of the B.C. Lions Taaffe laughed off a question discussing the playoffs. That attitude perhaps was the straw that broke the camel’s back. His comments did incite some disdain from the Ti-Cats faithful who also booed their team off the field Saturday.

We’ll have more after the press conference this afternoon.

“Taaffe laughed off a question discussing the playoffs.” — Taaffe is the CFL’s incarnation of Jim Mora.

Team quit on him awhile ago. Surprised it took this long. They looked very unprepared against BC.

I think his heart just wasn’t in it anymore. He wanted to go back to the states. I wouldn’t count Hamilton out just yet! Although it doesn’t look too promising right now…The Argos are far from clinching a playoff spot but Casey has to go.
