First Browns Game, First Browns Loss

I thought I was a little optimistic in my prediction. I have to admit, I was right on with the Browns inability to stop the Dallas offense, but that was like predicting the sun would come up in Phoenix this morning.
The Browns lost their opener 28-10 to Dallas this afternoon. The Dallas offense took off and never looked back. The Browns D stopped them on a total of 3 drives. The last one of them was an interception in the endzone by Eric Wright after a long Dallas drive. The first one was a rare dropped pass by Jason Witten that would have gone for a first down. The second one was caused by a pass interference call against Terrell Owens. In other words, Dallas went up and down the field at will. The pass rush sucked and didn’t show up until the second half. The DB’s were leaving people wide open all day. I don’t want to take anything away from Tony Romo because he hit his man in the perfect spot on almost every pass. Marion Barber and Felix Jones ran through the Browns D like a hot knife through butter! By the way, if you can’t stop a team on 3rd down, it’s gonna be a long afternoon. The Cowboys were 8 for 11 on third down. That doesn’t include a drive when they had 1st and 28! No problem for Dallas! A 15 yard pass and a 22 yard run —- FIRST DOWN…(in a Mexican accent) “3rd down…we don’t need no stinkin’ 3rd down”.
I know Tony Romo is a good quarterback, but I think the overall game showed how poorly the defense really is. They cannot focus on putting pressure on the quarterback, because the offense will run the ball down their throats or simply pass it to their wide open receivers. One way or another, even an average offense is going to crush this defense.
The Browns offense was inept as ever. They had some opportunities, but gave up yardage through penalties and Braylon Edwards dropped more balls than he caught today. He dropped 4 and caught 2 for 14 yards. I have give some love to Romeo Crennel and the offensive (yes, they are offensive) coaches. Down by 21, 10 minutes left, the game has been largely made up of long, time consuming drives, 4th down and 3 at the opponents 17, quick, what do you do? Kick the field goal, right…survey says…ahhhh, damn, your third strike. Romeo would probably urinate on a forest fire to put it out!
On a positive note, Jamal Lewis, Kellen Winslow, and the special teams showed up to play today. Good job to those guys.
Go BROWNS!

they didnt look ready today, no pass rush, not really solid run or pass blocking, and edwards looks very rusty and dropped way to many passes.

Defense killed the Browns no doubt! Braylon looked to be in pre-season mode. Key passes dropped.
Overall, how happy were you with Anderson and his decision making?

He forced a couple of throws into coverage and one to Jason Wright that needed to be over the defender. Other than that, I thought he played a fine game.

Fair enough! Are you surprised the defense is nowhere close to what it needs to be considering Crenel has been there a few years now?

Yes, I am surprised. We continue to spend money and give up draft picks for talent. I have a hard time believing the talent isn’t there, although these guys seem to need some help with their tackling skills. I have to blame the scheme, coaching, and play calling, as well. It is an all encompassing sucking! Did I just say that? Is that a sentence? Well, it should be, because it describes the Browns D to a T.
