Week 1 - Texans vs Steelers

Alright Texans fans this is what you have been waiting for! week 1 of the NFL season has finally arrived, and what better way to bring in the new year with a huge game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers are solid from top to bottom and especially on O with big Ben, Willie Parker, Santonio Holmes, Heath Miller, and Hines Ward. I don’t see the Texans D being able to shutdown the Steelers so this game will have to be a shootout with Andre and Schaub having very nice days to pull this game out.
Lets see if maybe Mario can turn it up even another level with Ryans and perhaps the D could steal this game but I am not very optimistic. I very much look forward to seeing what Steve Slaton has in store. I myself don’t have huge expectations for him but think he might need to have a pretty solid season or this Texans team could be in big trouble with no running game. Look for Green to get shutdown very early and often by this Steelers D. Green is past expiry and should have been cut. While on the topic of running backs, I know lots of people will be tuning into this game to see what the rookie on the other side of the ball has in store. Mendenhall looks to be a very solid back and people will be paying close attention to what they do…especially fantasy players.
I look for Houston to be in the game at the half but for the Steelers to pull ahead in the end. I will call a 31-21 final for the Steelers. Don’t get me wrong I am very optimistic about this Texans team season but the Steelers are a very good team and I think the Texans will just struggle on D, especially at the cornerback position.
Fantasy wise for this game I recommend you start 1 guy and 1 guy only and that is Andre Johnson unless you are in a very deep league start Schaub as well but I wouldn’t expect much out of him.

If Mario Williams gets 2 or more sacks the Texans win. If 1 or less they lose. It will be an indication of how well the pass rush is doing and if they can keep the pressure on Big Ben and lay the wood to him all day then they should be able to force some turnovers and be in the game in the fourth quarter.
I’d take the Texans and the 7 points this week

The Steelers are well adapt to winning games while getting sacked multiple times. The Texans have some major big play guys on their saide and the game could be decided with special teams. That being said, my predicition for the game is:
Steelers 24 Texans 13

How many wins do you see the Texans with at seasons end?
I have to think Kubiak needs a big year and an improvement on wins from last year. Thoughts?

I think Kubiak is very safe as head coach after a solid season last year. Houston is in tough this season as they don’t have many easy games. I would look for them to win 9 this season with an outside shot at 10
