The Steelers have traded center Sean Mahan to the Tampa Bay Bucanners for an undisclosed 2009 draft pick. The money saved by the Steelers will allow them to get some guys who are set to become free agents after this season under contract. The number one priority will be to sign Bryant McFadden.

Mahan, a six-year veteran, signed with the Steelers prior to the 2007 season as an unrestricted free agent from the Buccaneers, who selected him in the fifth round (168th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft. Mahan started all 16 games in the regular season and the Steelers’ only postseason game in 2007.

The move opens up a roster spot as well for the Steelers to add one more guy to their current 53 man roster.

It seems more and more that teams are cutting and trading quality players in their primes. Another surprise move but well said Jamie, as the Steelers are now able to do what they want……free up cap space to lock up the players they want!
