Matt Stairs Dealt to Philly, Travis Snider Gets the Call

It’s amazing that within the course of a week, the Blue Jays went from playing meaningful baseball to a team that’s unofficially - but officially - out of contention. Aside from relishing in watching A-Rod wither away as the games become more meaningful, Jays fans can look forward to the fact that Travis Snider - the Jays’ top prospect - has risen through the system and has been called up from AAA. Snider got the nod after it was learned that Matt Stairs had been dealt to the Philadelphia Phillies for a player to be named later.
For those not familiar with Snider, he’s a power-hitting corner-OF/DH type who won the AA Home Run Derby this season. The call up of Snider is intriguing though because it means that his arbitration eligibility has been moved up by one season now. I don’t think Ricciardi cares though because realistically, his GM duties draw closer to an end with each passing day.

Now if they can get their starting pitching to go deeper into games more often they can get the pen the rest if needs from a heavy workload this season.

Stairs loved it in TO, surprised by this move.

Me too kev, the phillies need contact hitters so they can figure out how to advance runners more often.

Snider is going to be a very good player, but I hope JP isn’t rushing him in hopes of saving himself. And Stairs had a lot of trade value, I hope for the Jays sake they got something good in return.
PS. Arod is still having one of the top 3 best seasons in the AL this year.

Big things expectd of Snider. If he can curb his strike out ratio, he could be quite the slugger. Did any of you see the bit on him in SI a few weeks back?

Sorry, correction…Stairs had some trade value. I was shocked to see his slugging percentage was under .400 But he’s still a nice bat to have coming off the bench, especially in the NL.
