Titans visit Green Bay for Final Preseason Contest

This is it for the Titans. It is their ”D” day or maybe ”O” day. Jeff Fisher goes against conventional wisdom and generally plays his starters into the 3rd quarter in the final preseason game instead of doing it in the third game. That means the Titans starters will be facing second and third team players for nearly two full quarters. Since the first game against the Rams, the Titans first team offense has struggled mightily and the passing game has been non existent for all the games. They have scored a grand total of six points in twelve series so far this year.
If the Titans offense does not show improvement at the wide receiver position it could end up being a very long year. I expect LenDale White to have a solid year and the emergence of Chris Johnson as a major threat both in the passing and running game will be crucial to their success.
That being said, the Titans have gone with very basic offensive sets and haven’t given the opponent scouts much to view this preseason. I’m hoping they put more wrinkles in the playbook tonight so the first team has some success and can feel good about what they are doing going into their opener against the Jaguars.
This team under Jeff Fisher has never been a wide open offense to say the least. They generally throw to the tight end more than any other position and run the ball first. Chris Johnson should be able to make some room for Vince Young as teams will not be able to spy on him exclusively like they did last year. I expect to see Vince break some nice runs this year which should also open up the passing game for him. Alge Crumpler has not been used much in preseason but figures to be a large part of the offense, especially against a tough Jaguar defense.
Tonight look for a more open playbook and some work in the redzone. It is very important for the offense to have a solid game tonight leading into the opener if not for the players confidence than for all the Titans fans that are about to jump off the bridge with their I hate Vince Young and Jeff Fisher signs.

You have got to love the Nashville area especially during football season. Within a four hour drive in any direction you can see view countless professional and college football games, not to mention our immediate area that is home to Vanderbilt, Tennessee State Univ, and Middle Tennessee State Univ. There are diehard Titan fans, Vols fans, Vandy fans, and even the occasional Alabama and Kentucky fan. It makes for interesting conversations at the sports bars on any given Saturday and Sunday.
This site is spreading like a fungus..err maybe I need to find a better word than that!! I was selling (not scalping) some tickets to a Titans preseason game a couple weeks ago and the guy was leary about dealing with me until he saw my name in the email and asked me if I was the guy who wrote the column in sportstalkbuzz. It was the first time I have had this happen and I have to admit my chest puffed out when I told him it was me. The buzz is spreading and I couldn’t be more proud of working with the talented people on this site.
Still recovering from the Bruce Springsteen concert. If you get a chance to see him by all means do it. Looking forward to JamFest this weekend at the Riverfront. Peter Frampton will be performing. It will bring back memories of the 70’s for sure. Did I tell you I love Nashville!
Till next time
