Jackson signs…but what is next for Rams

After missing 27 days of camp, and $405,000, Rams running back Steven Jackson has finally decided to do the smart thing and return to the team. A very good choice for him and especially the team, which is looking for his presecence and swagger to inspire a team looking for something to carry through the rest of the preseason and into the season.

So far the Rams have looked quite pedestrain in the preseason. Against the Titans they looked tired and could not make the routine tackles. Although they won against the Chargers last Saturday, it was a sloppy affair. QB Marc Bulger was constantly harrassed and made some bad decisions with the football. I know it is only preseason as we will hear from everyoine around the league, but only scoring 7 points has to be something that offensive coordinator Al Saunders has to be troubled with.

Enter Jackson. He is like a bigger version of who I think is the best  running/receiving back in the league, Brian Westbrook, of the Philadelphia Eagles. He is a dynamic game breaker, something the Rams are definately lacking, with himself and probably only veteran WR Torry Holt in that category.

Now he won’t play in todays game against the Ravens, so it will be way over a month before Jackson will have had any contact with an opposing defence. However once they get #39 back and ready in game shape, the Rams will be on a better track in setting themselves up well and getting a swagger to help them get ready for what should be an interesting season.

I’m wondering how rusty Jackson will be at the start of the season.
I hate when players hold out, and if I were the Rams, I would have let him sit out the entire season, because I wouldn’t put up with holdouts.
In fact, I would have went out and signed someone else, to replace him, if he didn’t come back on his own.

I agree with you in the fact that he will probably be rusty. However, being an elite running back in this league, it won’t take him too long to regain his form.

Players holding out I think is a part of the game, especially in this time and age of big money contracts in the NFL. I think it is something we will see more of, not less of, as we move into the future.

I truly hope that you are wrong on that. I fear that you are right, but I would hate that to be true.
I am hoping that the NFL, and NFLPA strike some sort of deal that would not allow the players to hold out. Much like in the NHL, I believe that they should make it so that you have to honor your contract, and negotiations cannot be had, until the final year of your contract.
For Jackson to want a new contract in his final year, is understandable, but for guys like Peters and Boldin who have several years left, it is unacceptable.
