The idea of a hernia sounds terrible. The idea of a groin injury sounds worse. The idea of a hernia in your groin? Just awful. Luckily doctors in DFW have found Kinsler’s injury to not be as serious as first believed.
Initial reports had Kinsler definitely missing the rest of the season with surgery on his groin. Per TR Sullivan, Dr John Preskitt at Baylor University Medical Center determined that there was no tear in his groin. Apparently Kinsler will rest for two weeks then re-evaluate. If it feels better, no surgery.
In the meantime Rangers fans will be treated to the Joaquin Arias experience. Exciting. Arias came over to Texas in the Alex Rodriguez trade. This will be his first extended appearance in the major leagues, and quite likely his only. He hasn’t done much in his time in the Texas system to inspire a ton of future hope. Kinsler has though, and his injury definitely is a downer.

The Kinsler injury shifts the emphasis further from 2008 to the 2009 campaign. With that said, in the coming weeks I’ll start to nail down an extensive evaluation of the Rangers farm system by position then overall ranking. It won’t start until season end, but when the season is over expect the lists to begin rolling out starting with relief prospects.
