Punt

Scott Feldman gave up a Texas Rangers record 10 runs in his first inning vs. Boston.
Luis Mendoza gave up 8 runs in 4 innings vs. Boston.
Tommy Hunter gave up 9 runs to Boston in the 2nd inning to come in under the “Feldman line”.
All I can say is punt on the season. If you score 17 runs in a game and lose the writing is on the wall. The Rangers have no bullpen or rotation. The Tigers took their poundings when they lost 120 games. It’s the Rangers’ pitchers turn to take some beatings. Let Warner Madrigal, Eric Hurley, Matt Harrison, and Luis Mendoza take their lumps for the remainder of the season.
What is the worst thing that can happen? The Rangers lose some more games? Anyone with a pulse can recognize how bad the pitching and defense are. The lineup has proven itself time and again. The players have lost faith in the pitching. You can see it in the hitters’ eyes. T’hey never give up, but they have to know how hopeless this season is.
2008 was never the season where the Rangers would be competing. They may even end up with a top 10 pick after the coming meltdown, but 2010 is still the season to look for. The team has filled long-term holes at 1B and CF so the season is still a success. I can guarantee that the winter will bring pitching to Texas, but the long-term picture needs to stay in focus. 2008 is starting to unravel, but the Rangers are at .500 in late August. That’s a step forward.

Josh - Good point on comparing the pitching to the young Tigers from a few years back. Let them take their lumps now so, like you said, in 2010 they can be more mature. That lineup is scary good but wow, a couple of really bad innings can kill a series…See you guys again in September

Lineups only going to get better if they find a way to sign first round pick Justin Smoak today. They could have a 2-3-4-5 of Kinsler, Hamilton, Davis and Smoak, scary stuff.

The lineup is great. I think they’ll have a decent record at the end of the year. They have a lot of home games and they aren’t going to be facing lineups like the redsox either so they should be able to overcome their pitching

The sad thing is that it doesn’t matter who they face. Team USA could probably drop a 6 spot on them.
I’m convinced Smoak will never play a game as a Ranger. He either doesn’t sign or is dealt for pitching next winter if he’s all that.

I agree with Jim! Great analogy on the Rangers and Tigers!
