San Diego Chargers - Pre Season Update

Hello everyone,
The San Diego Chargers began pre season action this past Saturday with an impressive 31-17 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, demonstrating why many experts around the league are calling them a legitimate super bowl contender. Although the majority of the Chargers starters only played until early in the second quarter, the performances by key players in limited playing time should be more than enough to get fans throughout San Diego excited. For example, the recovery of Philip Rivers from major knee surgery looks to be proceeding ahead of pace after he went 5 of 6 with 54 passing yards and led the Chargers on two different scoring drives.
There were a couple of other noteworthy performances by San Diego players last weekend, including two rookies that the organization is counting on to be impact players during the upcoming season. The debuts of first round pick Antoine Cason and third round selection Jacob Hester were both encouraging, with the youngsters making a memorable first impression. The physical nature of Hester in short yardage running situations will definitely be a welcomed addition to the backfield, and the LSU product immediately demonstrated his talent by running for 49 yards on 13 carries with two touchdowns. On the other side of the ball, the former Arizona Wildcat Antoine Cason was making plays around the field all game and subsequently ended up leading the Chargers on tackles for the day. Although Chargers fans shouldn’t get too excited about a single pre season game, the debut of these two rookies should allow San Diego fans to remain cautiously optimistic about the future of these two young players.
Injury Update
As per usual at this time of year, rosters across the league are full of players recovering from off season surgery. The situation is no different in San Diego, where the Chargers received positive news this week about two different injured players hoping to be recovered in time for the start of the season. The first is starting fullback Andrew Pinnock, who passed a physical this week after undergoing microfracture surgery on his left knee during the off season. Although Pinnock has been participating in light drills throughout the week, there is still no timetable set for his return. However, the Chargers training staff and coaches seem confident he will be ready for the start of the season. Similarily, starting defensive tackle Jamal Williams is also making progress after having both knees scoped during the off season. For a few days now, Williams has been participating in light contact drills with teammates at practice. Although a timetable for his return is also unknown, with this most recent progress I would be surprised if we don’t see him take the field at some point during the exhibition schedule.
Alright NFL fans, that’s all I have for now. The Chargers next pre season game will be this upcoming Saturday in St.Louis against a Rams team that they have defeated in their past four consecutive meetings. Be sure to stay tuned to sportstalkbuzz for all your NFL news across the league.

Brandon I think the Chargers can win 13 games this year when looking at their schedule as long as they stay healthy. They are the class of their division! KC is a young rebuilding team. Oakland very much the same and Denver is not the team it once was.

This team will win the AFC if they stay healthy.

Even if they don’t stay healthy, they should still win the division.
