PreSeason Game #1 in the books

Final result, BENGALS 20, PACK 17 (So much for yesterdays prediction on my part eh?  Bet, nobody back home in Canada will use me for a Pro-Line pick…)

On a night where fall was in the air early - so were helmets!  First touchdowns for both teams came off plays where the ’scorer’ lost the helmet.  On the Packers first touchdown it appeared to me on first watch that the ball went flying out as 2 Benglas and a Packer collided - but low and behold, indeed just a Packer helmet and off to the races went WR James Jones.  Aaron Rodgers, by all media accounts did good - not great - but good from all I’ve seen/heard.  My own opinion was that he looked nervous early on (and rightly so) but settled in on just the second play and was sharp.  You can’t over analysis the stinky brown stuff out of this guy as the ESPN broadcasters did, nor can you keep up the constant Brett mentions ESPN did.  It for me, ruined the broadcast entirely.  Maybe it is because Green Bay media outlets covered the story so indepth for weeks that we are all just ready for anew….

Anyways, I thought the Packer logo as an outline in the centre of the field was a good touch given its preseason.  I also thought 3rd string rookie QB Flynn, #10, looked good late in the game.  He did create and maintain some momentum.  Given more attention has been towards Rodgers and Brohm, Flynn definetely showed his draft worthiness given his opportunity.

The defense and offense in general, were ok - but not great.  A few mised balls on both ends, but overall a pretty good preseason effort.

Ruvell Martin got banged up midway though the game, but eventually left the field aided by two trainers - but otherwise on his on feet.  Aside from that, nothing major for either team on the injury fronts.

9 people were arrested at the game last night, 12 were ejected.  Out of a crowd of 72,000 (sellout), isn’t that almost unheard off these days?  I always find that day after story interesting - considering if you know about the tailgaiting routine here, and the amounts of alcohols consumed by many.  That also goes without mentioning the local law during game days here, (in the stadium district) you may walk and consume your favourite beverage free and open right up to the stadium gates with police overseeing things - but not impeeding.

Next up, a good-ole-fashion pre-season road game for the Packers.  They will travel west for there second game in 5 days to play San Francisco 8pm CTL, 9pm EST this Saturday, August 16th.

The team has no scheduled practice today, but 2 public practices Wednesday and Thursday with no public practice Friday before leaving for the ‘other Bay area’.
