Paul Byrd traded to the Red Sox

Paul Byrd has been pitching lights out since the break and now, he is getting rewarded. The Indians traded him today to the Red Sox for a player to be named or cash. The Red Sox will pick up the remainder of his 2008 contract, which works out to be around $2 million.
Mark Shapiro says the move was to give MLB playing time to some of their players with a chance to make the 2009 roster. This will be a great opportunity to see some of the talent we have in Buffalo and Akron.
I expect Zach Jackson will be called in to make a few starts. He was acquired in the C.C. Sabathia trade.
I will miss Paul Byrd and hope the best for him. He has had his ups and downs. He had a great close to 2007 (aside from the ALCS) and I was hoping for more in 2008, but knew he probably wouldn’t have a great year. He has been great lately. His career is waning and I am sure he’d like a shot at the World Series. Good luck, Paul.
