Niners Preseason - A Complete Snore and my final Favre Comment

So the big news out of camp is that JT O’Sullivan will start at quarterback in Friday’s preseason opener against Oakland. Apparently, Coach Mike Nolan insists that there are three mediocre quarterbacks competing for what used to be one of the highest profile jobs in the NFL. Now it’s a contest between O’Sullivan, who will likely play a quarter and a bit, Alex Smith who will play for parts of the second and the third quarters and Shaun Hill who will finish off the third and play the fourth. I know..exciting stuff. There’s nothing quite as boring as the preseason and we can thank the 49ers for not disappointing.
I’m happy to say, however, that Jet Favre will no longer be a part of the NFC. The guys at CBS will now have the esteemed pleasure of kissing this guy’s @$$ after every incompletion and interception he throws. Heck, that sentiment even resonated here on STB, with our colleague Frank turning into a Brett-Brown-Noser overnight. Shame on you Frank…but then again, you’re a wrestling fan and as Colin Cowherd rightfully said on his show back in the day - wrestling fans are booger-eaters. You know what? So are Favre-lovers.
As you can imagine, I’m having one of those days where the lack of interesting sports news has left me slightly more jaded and bored than usual. The Niners are boring the crap out of me and the Trojans have me hyped, but their roster is all set and their #2 ranking is assured so there isn’t much to go with there. I’m looking for something interesting.
Got somethin?

It’s the dog days of summer……..don’t mind baseball but college football, NFL, & hockey are what i’m waiting for.

Aah yes. Can’t forget puck. At least Sundin doesn’t change his mind 750 times. He chooses to just not make his mind up at all!

How do you see the QB situation playing out Dave? Imagine after all the hype and money oh and the extension if Smith doesnt start at QB to start the year?
August 7th, 2008 at 11:03 am
haha, i prefer you bow j/k
I thought Shaun Hill looked pretty good last year and will win the job maybe leading to Alex Smith’s time as a 49ers done.

As I’ve said in the past, Smith will start on a short leash. Nolan and Martz probably know it already, but won’t say anything until the final preseason game. What will happen is neither qb will have confidence and the Niners will stink it up this year.
With that being said, here’s to me being wrong!!

I’ll admit defeat there. Fortunately, RJ Umberger’s no longer in the Eastern Conference giving the Habs a chance against Philly if they play in the playoffs again.

I still think it’d be a good match up. But keep in mind also Gagne didn’t even play so with him back who knows.

They are thinking of playing the rookie Giroux with Briere and Gagne I am told!

not what i’d like to see but i wouldn’t mind seeing what they can do.
