I’m surprised that all they could get was Casey and a relief prospect considering what they gave up to bring in Teixeira in the first place.

Bought high and sold low (well at least the market was, not Teixiera). Although Kotchman is a fine player and is just 25 years old, which surprised me since I’ve been hearing about him for what feels like 5 years. He just needs to work on his OBP, which in past seasons was above league average, so there is no reason to think it won’t improve. Clearly he doesn’t have the power of Tex, but the Braves can really build off of him.
Crucial that the Angles re-sign him, or else he’s destined for Baltimore or New York and the Angles have a gapping hole at first (where they’d acquire a below average player or move Kendrick).

I think Teixeira will wind up in Boston when Manny takes off.

Where does Youkilis go then Graeme? He would shift back to 3rd but you have Lowell there. Neither of those players are being traded or benched. And Ortiz has the DH spot occupied. Lowell can’t move to left, so the other option would be moving Youkilis out there, but again I just can’t see that happening.
Besides, as annoying as he is(had to get that in there), Youkilis has been very productive this year, nearly as much as Teixiera. In fact they have the exact same OPS+ of 139, so why spend the Manny money on a player you don’t really need?
Boston will look to acquire a SS and a LF. Then again I still don’t believe Manny is leaving so this is kind of a moot point if you ask me.

That’s interesting because as recently as 2006, Youkilis played LF.
Boston doesn’t need a SS when they have Jed Lowrie breaking in right now.
I’d think it’s likely that they’ll probably spend on either Sheets/Sabathia and Teixeira. Position eligibility doesn’t matter to the Sox. They’re just trying to replace production.

18 games really isn’t a whole lot for Youkilis in left, and he’s developed into arguably one of the top first basemen in the AL. Why mess with success as they say?
Plus I can’t see them outbidding the Yankees if he leaves the Angeles, especially since Teixeira isn’t a necessity for Boston.
I forgot about Lowrie, good call Graeme. Although if there is an upgrade avaliable I’m sure they’ll take it. However Boston hasn’t had any luck with Free Agent SS, so maybe they should try the internal option.
I can definitely see Ben Sheets in a Redsox uniform next year.
