Well Folks the British Open has arrived and started and the conditons look awful. Kenny Perry is likely smiling right now saying “Who is the dumb guy for not playing now”
I only have one question for you all and that is, who do you think will win without Tiger in the field?
I will offer up a few of my picks (which are easy to make after some have finished round 1)
1. Adam Scott - Scott has had a nice start so far today and is one of the top players in every tourney. With how good this kid hits the ball he is bound to break out eventually in a major.
2. Retief Goosen - I would of posted Goose even without his +1 current leader in the house status. Goosen is a great player, very steady, hit fairways, putts well….what doesn’t Goose do well?
3. Stewart Cink - This guy is always near the top and has been caught by Tiger a few times. Look for Cink to have a nice week. He can putt with the best of them.
4. Ernie Els - How can you not cheer for the big easy?
5. Jim Furyk - Jim is one of the best players not named Tiger and for plenty of reasons (besides that awful swing).
Guys just outside my top 5 are the following: Westwood, Garcia, Mickelson, Casey, Stricker, and Ogilvy. I like Ogilvy the best out of that group only because I can’t stand Garcia. Mickelson has had a rough start to the tourney but I fully expect him to make lots of birdies as well.
My Pick to win it all will be Adam Scott. Yep easy to say at -1 currently but anyone who watches golf knows that -1 after 8 holes of a major means nothing. I just like to cheer for this guy. I will actually call Scott in a playoff over Garcia…

Never say that again! Tht’sot even funny! I bleed Sens red dude!

That’s not*

Then your bleeding a lot with the state of the sens right now.

lol sorry Brad. I am a Sens fan as well so I understand the pain of that shot I sent to you.
Weir is a good player but thinking he will win is just hope. His game has not been at a great level for sometime. Nice to see him playing well again but I would be shocked (happy) if he was to win this week.
As for the state of the Sens. They are just fine James.

Lefty comes in at +9! he will have his work cut out for him tomorrow. Stricker is having a rough start as well sitting at +5.
How about Van De Velde +3 and almost home….now that would be a story if he could find a way to win.

Yeah man, I was just messing around, I like Weir, very nice guy but his game hasn’t been the up to snuff for a while. My real pick is Goosen, he’s sound all around and with the poor conditions it’ll probably help him brave it.

Els, VJ, Phil - all big numbers today…Ernie shot 80!
Course is eating good players up today. Could be interesting to see what kind of numbers wins this thing. Adam Scott is still sitting at -1…if he could take it a few deep today it would be a huge advantage. Par 5 coming home will give him a chance to steal a few shots.
Weir actually coming in with +1 is in very nice shape.

I’m going with Kim too, mostly because I think it would be great to see a new young guy run with the ball when Tiger is out. Here’s a wildcard name I’ll throw in the pot, what about the beloved Sabbatini? He’s a jerk but he’s a good golfer too, and you know he’d love to see steal the spotlight from his pal Tiger. I haven’t checked out either of these guys have done today though. Garcia is also always in contention for the European crown too, although I am no longer a fan of his.

I can’t cheer for Sergio because of how long it takes him to hit the ball (even though he is getting better)
I do give him extra points for Greg Norman’s daughter though.

Rocco Mediate fires a 69 to come in at -1….nice score and looks to be going after the W he couldn’t sneak from Tiger….could be a fun story for the week….Scott is still on fire sitting 2 deep with 3 to play. Still has another par 5 that he could make birdie at.

I would love to see Rocco competiting again on the final day. He really won me over with his game and his personality at the US Open. Also I noticed STB’s golden boy Mike Weir put up a nice 71, good for him. And did anyone notice who shot a respectable 73 today? David Duval!
What a story that would be if he could compete again. Remember like 10 years ago when he was supposed to be Tigers main competition. This could be a very fun tournament even without Tiger.

Duval +3, Van De Velde finishes off at +3….that is good stuff seeing those names near the top.
Scott is having troubles on the home stretch going bogey, bogey and now sits at even par

I don’t mean to hijack the thread, but just fine? Really? Seems to me your goaltending needs and Leafs like defense have yet to be addressed.

Forgot to mention Greg Norman at E, now that is a fun story to follow too.

Well we are up and in fact over the cap, It will be another stressful year but I am interested to see how they perform, they are alot faster then last year.
Posted: 07/17/08 at 12:30 pm
I think our goalies are fine just needed to fix the defense which i can’t say that was done but what can ya do.

First off, Go Sens, go Weir, go golfing Leafs!
Second, The Sens just need one offensive dman, and either Lee (not me, Brian Lee), Carkner or Nicholat will step up nicely in a third line role. Resigning Meszaros would be nice also.
Third, thinking Weir has a chance is not that far fetched, he has always been a two or three round guy, but every once and a while he shows up for all 4 rounds. So anything is possible.
Four, wouldn’t you just love to play golf in the conditions that they play with at the British Open?

Great job Sandy in getting this up, has everyone talking golf!

And in round two, Weir does his classic disappearing act!
