Any Cubs fans scared out there?
We have hit the all-star break (seemed really fast this year) and the Cubs are sitting 4.5 games up on the Cards and 5 games up on some other team people keep talking about…I think named the Brewers. The Cubs have done this with missing Soriano for large chunks of time, and Zambrano missing some time as well. Also the Cubs did this without Rich Harden! and instead started the season with Rich Hill. I for one am not scared of the Brewers or Cards at this point at all. Sure CC Sabathia was a nice add for the Brewers but do you honestly think he alone will make up 5 games on the Cubs? especially after the fact the Cubs add Harden? All Harden did in his debut was toss 5 innings and change and punch out 10 batters! All I am scared about is what happens in the post season at this point. I would still like to see the Cubs add another bat, however I am not sure they will.
I am just tickled pink with following things so far this season from the Cubbies.
1. Ryan Theriot - this guy has just been wonderful.
2. Fukudome - Yep that is right I am treating him like Ichiro and just rolling with the 1 fun name this guy has. He is a wonderful player, has terrific at bats, and so far is exactly as advertised. Very happy with his play.
3. Kerry Wood - Has done a wonderful job as the RP, and his biggest injury is a blister that should be healed up after the weekend! Keep it going Kerry!
4. Carlos Marmol - I think he is the best setup man in baseball right now. Anyone disagree?
5. Ryan Demspter - What can’t you say. He is an all-star….seriously am I sleeping?
6. The Rich Harden trade - Happy Happy Joy Joy. Brining in the gun slinger from B.C. Harden is a wonderful talent who I look forward to watching at Wrigley for as long as possible.

When you match up the starting rotations and the lineups, the brewers and cubs are very similar. However the Cubs take the big lead when you compare the bullpens. This is what will make the Cubs the NL Central champions. However I still wouldn’t want to run into the brew crew in the playoffs, as Sabathia and Sheets is THE BEST 1-2 combo in the NL (yes I like them more than Webb & Haren). Lot to be happy about in Wrigleyville.

Brewers and playoffs lol…those words don’t go together Joseph. The Brew Crew have to worry about just getting past the Cards….then worry about the other teams in the NL wild card race like the Mets, The Marlins etc. The Brew crew will be sitting at home watching come playoff time.
And the best 1-2 combo is Zambrano-Harden!

Sorry Sandy but I need to see Harden pitch more than 5 2/3 before I anoint him healthy. Sheets has been the NL’s best pitcher this year, and Sabathia was rolling through the AL after a rough first month. I’d take those two before your Cubbies…sorry.
And the Brewers have a great shot at the playoffs. I just don’t buy the Cardinals last all season, especially since Ludwick is starting to come back to earth. Cubs better hope Marmol gets straightened out or it will be closer than people thing for the NL Central.

Ludwick is a solid player who came back to earth when Albert was out of the lineup. The Cards are a strong team and have a nice cushion right now. My point only was the Brewers have to deal with a handful of teams just to make the post season. The Cubs controld their own destiny and with the team they have together it would be a huge upset for them to not at least make the playoffs.
Lets see how the second half plays out..Zambrano & Harden vs. CC and Sheets. If Harden stays healthy it is at worst a split to me.
