The Chicago Cubs got back on track with a series win over the dirty Cards. This series was a must win I think and the Cubs delivered. Chicago needed a pick me up series before the break to show they are still the best team in this division especially after the Brew crew picked up C.C. Sabathia from the Indians.
The main question from the weekend to me is are the Cubs still the best team in the NL or better yet are they even still the best team in their division. The Cubs have some very good teams in the Brewers and Cards to contend with. My second question is do the Cubs need to respond to this trade? I would say yes. I also said they should have been the team to go out and get C.C. I honestly would of offered up Murton, Gallagher and Hill for his services. So where do we look. AJ Burnett has looked good lately in Toronto and is worth keeping an eye on. Holliday in Colorado, Roberts in Baltimore, I really like the kid Snell in Pittsburgh and think he would be worth putting in a feeler on. I think if you could add a Snell and maybe another bat this team would be the clear cut runner for the ring. I still think the Cubs are the best team in the NL……anyone disagree??
In other news the Cubs are sending 7 players to the all-star game in NYC. Soto, Fukudome, Soriano, Ramirez, Dempster, Zambrano and Wood. Also Lou will be heading over to manage as well. Fukudome and Soriano got the nod to start (it would be a miracle to see Alfonso play in the game)…this game could be a huge game for the Cubs so nice to see 7 of them their to try and win it. The Cubs plan on going to the World Series and if they do they would love them home field advatage you get with winning this otherwise meaningless game.
Up next is Cincy! I got my broom ready (Just don’t tell my fiance or she might make me actually use it around the house)

Cubs need to respond to this trade but at what cost? They could overpay and get what they want as there are players out there to be had! Time will tell.
Great job on the Cubbies getting 7 players to the All-Star game!

I would of over paid for CC. I would give up a bunch for Holliday (I haven’t heard what the Rockies would be seeking in return). I still think Roberts could be had at a reasonable price.

I also meant to mention Rich Harden. Not sure how I forgot that but rumour has it Harden is on top of the Cubs list. Perhaps higher than C.C. was. Harden has stuff as good as anyone but he has the injury problem that Cubs fans are very familar with. I would love to see him in a Cubs depending on the asking price. I would assume the price would be lower than what Sabathia was worth.

Trading with Billie Beane is tough though. Harden is a great talent but can break down at anytime. Still I think this is the Cubs year to win it all, and if they have a healthy Harden they will be a real force. For that reason I’d say empty the farm to get him, especially since the Cubs farm isn’t all that great to begin with. No one is untouchable, and the list obviously includes Murton, Vitters, Veal, etc.

Awful trade by Jim Hendry, what was he thinking!!!! I’m just kidding, lol as I clearly was in favor of the Cubs going after Harden earlier in the day. I love this trade from both sides. The Cubs not only got Harden, but got Gaudin who I think will be very effective in the NL. He’s sort of like an insurance policy of Harden goes down.
On the other side, Beane doesn’t appear to get any superstars, but he gets at least 3 solid major league players (or will be) for a guy whose value was like a yo-yo. I’d give the edge to the Cubs, but look how that Haren trade has worked out. everyone thought Beane got robbed, so just about all of those players are performing well in the A’s organization.
