This has been a very busy week for me, as my wife and I introduced our second child into the world on Wednesday July 2nd.
As that being the case, I would like to start a new debate, and I will make it quick and simple.
If the NFL was to introduce a new expansion team, what city would you like to see get it?
Now, I don’t want people to say something like Wawa Ontario, because the 18 people in Wawa would not be able to fill the stadium. What I would like is for everyone to make their decision based on possible fan base, location, and population.
I would guess that some people would love to see a place like Toronto getting a team, maybe Las Vegas, or giving Los Angeles another shot. Whichever city you chose, make sure to back it up with why you choose that city and how well you think it would do.
My choice would be Toronto, but on a few conditions.
1. They would have to leave the Buffalo Bills alone!
2. They would have to pass a law in Ontario that you can tailgate!
3. The ticket prices would have to be equivalant to that of the other 32 NFL teams and not sky high!
4. A new stadium would have to be built.
And 5. They would have to be named something that has to do with Canada. Like the Toronto Beavers!, or the Toronto Maple……Trees. Ok maybe something like the Toronto Mounties!!!
If all 5 stipulations are met, then I would say send an NFL team up to North Americas 4th largest city.
Quick and simple, lets have some fun with this!

LA. Give the 2nd largest market a team. It is about time.

Congrat Lee on the new addition!
LA for sure, with you that one Femi.
What about San Antonio? They showed they could support during the Hurricane Katrina stuff when the Saints played a handful of games there. Heck the Saints almost moved there! That city can support a team. Great sports market for sure!

They had how many chances… only if they promise not to move again, ever.

I would think that they wouldn’t mess it up again in LA.
Good choice. It also brings in another team to the west.

Funny that you mention San Antonio, because they were going to be my choice.
They have a population of over 1.2 million and they are a football first state. They have the 7th largest population in the US, and the basketball team is very well supported.
The only reason why I didn’t pick San Antonio was because it is so close to Houston and Dallas. (Not that it wouldn’t get the support)
Texas is all about football!!

Not moving again, would be a must on the stipulation list with LA.
But what city would you choose?

Being canadian, my bias allows me to choose Toronto. The fan base is definatly here. It would be a huge money-maker for the city that I don’t think they could afford to pass up. The only stipulation I would put on a team in Toronto would be that MLSE(parent company of NHL’s Maple Leafs and NBA’s Raptors for those who don’t know), have absolutly nothing to do with anything regarding any potential NFL team. They may have to money to run an NFL franchise, but theydefinatly do not have the brains. Easily the worst ownership group in the history of organized sports.

I like the Toronto idea. Can’t wait to write my first article after the Browns beat them…”Cleveland Hard On Beavers Monday Night”
My choice would be Phoenix. They really deserve a team and have gone long enough without one.

lol, funny, and yet still PG!
As for Phoenix getting a team, they actually do already have one. That is where the Arizona Cardinals play. And you are right, they do deserve one, and they support the team very well. They also have a very large population, so it makes perfect sense to have a team.
Thanks for the reply Tom.

I love the Phoenix joke!

Lee, I live in Phoenix and can tell you that while they do support the team, the Cardinals fans could do better. This is a Suns city.

the Cards fans aren’t as good as the Raiders fans, but when they start to actually do well, i’m sure that will change.
speaking of the suns though, I thought that they would go further in the playoffs this year. I would love to see Nash get a ring.

Toronto. LA doesn’t deserve another shot they blew it once.
Lee congrats on the new born!

I will toss out many choices Oregon, Utah, New Mexico, Alabama, Nebraska, Idaho, Montana, either of the Dakota’s, or last Oklahoma……….
Congrats on the New Born !!!! Bring on the Raiders new born gear !

Thanks Sandy.
Toronto would be a great choice, I just hope that if they do it, they control the prices better then what they are doing with the Bills.

So pretty much any state that doesn’t have a team?
Not a bad idea.
Thanks for the congats, and don’t worry, my son has plenty of Raiders gear to corrupt him into being a fan!
Although, I will give him the same options that I gave my daughter.
Oakland, Oakland or Oakland!!!!
He will have a better selection with Hockey because he will get to choose between Ottawa (my team), Edmonton (my wifes team), Montreal (my brothers team), Calgary or Vancouver. Thats it!
Its fun when you get to mold the minds of little ones!!!
Thanks James

Lee, your son should be a flyers fan……….I should send something for him, haha !!
Posted: 07/08/08 at 1:09 pm
Please do send my son some Flyers gear, the cost of Diapers is really high, and that would help us out a lot:)
Although, I wouldn’t be too upset if my son ends up a Flyers fan, just so long as he doesn’t end up a Leafs fan. If he did, I would have to check him into a Mental Clinic to try to get his mind right again. Even though, by the time my son will be 10, the Leafs might be done rebuilding
