Once again the Bills have had the foresight to ink a good young player to a long term deal. Right guard Brad Butler came to terms yesterday on a contract extension, of which the terms have not yet been disclosed. However, it is certain that Butler will be earning more than what he would have been making this year, or the following year; averaged at around $500,000/year.
This is great news as far as I’m concerned, and it also illustrates that the team, while obviously looking at their own best interests, has also shown good faith in giving a player fair compensation. I can’t look into the future, but I hope that Butler doesn’t pull the same stunt that his colleague Jason Peters is pulling now. Otherwise, there will be little need for these types of happenings to be publicized.
Once terms of the deal are disclosed, I’ll leave them at the bottom of this post as an update.
In other news, 4th round pick Derek Fine became the 3rd of Buffalo’s draft picks to sign a deal. If Fine has a good camp, and Schouman continues to improve, Robert Royal may be looking for a new job by the end of the Summer.
Finally, I want to pass along the good news posted on BuffaloBills.com recently, that former BIlls’ QB Joe Ferguson is now in remission from his second stint with cancer. His story is an amazing one, and I urge anyone to take a look at it for themselves - http://www.buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=6176 Those of you who have been watching the Bills for more than 20-years will assuredly remember him, and should enjoy this piece.

Update: The Butler deal will extend his 2 remaining years to 5, and will pay him roughly 2 million per season.
This is a great deal!
