Second is not allowing him on the sidelines for the Superbowl, planting him in a luxury box as to not be a distraction. Many versions of the cover story Joseph mentioned are out there most common I’ve heard are “injured player not allowed” actually they are just think about past superbowls, the second version that he didn’t want to be on the sideline as he didn’t want to be a distraction; same kind of story as why he skipped the media day.

But Shockey spilled it Saturday mentioning these were not true and he wanted to have the full Superbowl experience albeit injured and wanted to be where he thought he belonged on the field with his teammates.

Isn’t a injured player not allowed on the sidelines? Hence the reason Shockey was in the box during the superbowl? Thats at least what some of the media figures were saying here in NY.

But Shockey has a really affordable contract for the next couple seasons. I think that is why Reese did not pull the trigger. However with Shockey and Reese’s issues at minicamp this past week, it is very possible that he will be moved.
In the CJ situation with the Bengals, I agree with you in the fact a deal should have been made. But still with the season not underway we will see what develops out of this.

Shockey is a headcase with a reasonable contract that has been and remains a distraction to the team, a team that had enough depth at TE to win a Superbowl and has contract issues with two key recievers and has some holes on defense to fill.

The only argument for Shockey to stay is talented and reasonably priced scenario that ends at “what if” he could get it together? wait we have tried this for several years and he can’t…

Totally agree the fact is the Bengals had an opportunity to move a souring investment for at least market value and chose not too. In any negotiation there can be a point where it moves past business and becomes personal but when you make your business personal you usually lose the negotiation and to me the Bengals, have done just that…
