Smackdown Review: 05.30.08: One More Time?

Tonight’s Smackdown! was the ‘go home’ show before One Night Stand this Sunday, and once again it stressed the Undertaker vs. Edge feud, where this Sunday they will face off in a TLC match for the World Heavyweight Title, and if the Undertaker loses, he is banished from WWE forever…other news and notes:

  • I really like Batista’s inter-brand feud with HBK right now, it is one of the few highlights in a company that is struggling to come up with new storylines for their audience.
  • Matt Hardy is a great wrestler, if somehow he could drop his North Carolina accent, he would be a main-eventer in no time.
  • Again I will reiterate that WWE should do something with Elijah Burke, he has a lot of talent but is currently being underused, which is a damn shame.
  • It’s weird how Finlay has gone from a main storyline to a ‘who cares’ feud with Chuck Palumbo.   Why Vince McMahon has been off his TV persona for this long makes no sense to me.  Personally, there is no better heel in the business than the Chairman himself.
  • As fellow STB blogger Justin Barracosa pointed out this week, CM Punk is being extremely underused, and for a wrestler who is holding the Money in the Bank briefcase, it is time they start pushing that storyline for him.
  • I’m really starting to like John Morrison and The Miz as Tag Team Champs, their segment on WWE.com ‘The DIrt Sheet’ is quite amusing, and I see a potential future for both these wrestlers.
  • Speaking of futures, why Zach Ryder and Curt Hawkins haven’t had a shot at the WWE Tage Titles simply baffles me, it would of been perfect to have the heel stable “The Edgeheads” take control of the main titles on Smackdown!  Now I am simply hoping the Edge-Vickie storyline ends and we move on to something more decent.
  • Valdimir Kozlov…….different week……same comment…..what are you waiting for WWE?
  • Finally, all signs point to the Undertaker winning the World Heavyweight Title at ONS, however, there is a possibility of a complete swerve having Edge win the title and Taker being banished, only to have him return in the WWE Draft and go to RAW.  It will be interesting to see what happens.

Til next time,

-Will

Nice blog as always Will. As you said, same storylines and crap that we are fed week in and out. When is it going to change? It really has got quite boring and I dont watch it nearly as much as I used to.

Thanks Kevin, hopefully after ONS we see some new developments leading into Summerslam, one can only hope WWE wakes up and makes some changes with their poor ratings recently…

No Kevin you’re correct he’s gone….for now. Early reports suggest he’ll be back around Summerslam, if not Survivor Series.

I think McMahon has been reading my blog and decided to swerve last night’s match. Was a real good match, lots of huge bumps taken by everyone, including Taker himself.

Very interesting. I am quite surprised by this.

But hey, that is what happens when our STB bloggers suggest things to the story makers……….they listen!

Considering Taker was slated for a lengthy title run, the fact that he now wants time off is very interesting. Smackdown! doesn’t really have any top stars besides Edge and Batista, it will be interesting to see what will happen for their next PPV.
