I realize some head coaches have been with one franchise a long time but many of them have won a title and gave their fans much to cheer about. What is too long these days to be with 1 team and not bring home a championship?
This question is being raised by me because we now enter the 9th season with Andy Reid. While he has won many games (88-56 regular season & 8-6 in the post season), he has yet to win a championship. Sure he as been to 4 NFC Championship games in a row (1- 3) nad he has only made it to 1 Super Bowl, losing to the Patriots.
He is about as much fun to watch do press conferences and interviews as it is watching paint dry. Actually watching paint dry and is probably more fun and exciting in the long run.
Recently the most emotion seen from Reid is when the media kept asking him about the Lito Shepard dilema.
So I ask everyone here how long is to long ?

Well, it took Bill Cowher 15 seasons to bring home the “one for the thumb”, but it would have to deal a lot with the scenario and what have you done for me lately. In Cowher, he was often question about his leadership early on, but with the support of the owners and organization, he prevailed in big ways. Reid has been close, so the question could be, “Are you ready to give up on him?”

Not yet………..I am really questioning his undervaluing getting key positions filled because he thinks we don’t need it yet when we had it we went to the super bowl.
Who needs a #1 WR, the eagles don’t……….we have a team full of #3’s or players who probably wouldn’t make another NFL team.
Who needs a quality backup RB the eagles don’t…….because they do nothing when westbrook is out of the lineup.
Who need a TE who can actually catch and then run with the ball not fall down or drop it.
Who needs a return guy when we can stick guys back there who have never done it before only to have to resign a guy who can just catch the ball on returns.
Who needs actual Linebackers instead of contsantly drafting college DE’s who they try to convert to LB’s and then proceed to be confused and get burn everyway you can be in the course of a game.
but other then that he can stay.

I think the real question is - how long is too long with Donovan McNabb?
Reid’s a solid coach who has kept the Eagles respectable or better throughout his nine years in Philly. He also brings the biggest intangible — continuity. I say stay with him for the long haul.

Well considering when McNabb actually had somebody who can run all the routes and catch (see owens) he did very well, you give him avg receivers (see the other seasons). They refuse to go out and get WR’s that can help and instead invest $10 million in guarenteed money in unproven Reggid Brown & at best slot receiver Kevin Curtis thus refusinig to put the same amount or even combined guaranteed money into a WR that can help.

Tough call on this one. Lets see how Philly does this year but if they got off to a slow start it could mean the end of Reid.

4 NFC championships makes u a wonderful coach. The Superbowl is just a coin toss. I know what you are saying…at some point it is time to go. Mike Shannahan is getting near that point in Denver and he has a pair of rings….sometimes things just need to be changed…that said I think Shanny is in Denver for life

That’s where were getting at here in philly……..and to listen to him on the radio saying they were trying to win this year, i almost burst out laughing. We will see how it goes.

McNabb is not the problem. No offence to Mr. Reid, but he wasn’t the one getting chased by defensive linemen to make it to those 4 NFC Championships and the Super Bowl appearance. We can all agree McNabb has never had a #1 receiver, something that all the greats, except for Brady, has had. He has gotten a lot done with little around him.

First of all, great topic James! It is an interesting question, and an interesting scenario you bring up to discuss the question.
I believe Reid is a good coach, and speaking as someone living outside of Philly, and more uneducated than those closer to the situation, I believe his success speaks for itself. Remember, only 1 team out of 32 wins a Super Bowl each year, and if every coach who didn’t win for 8 seasons was canned despite having a great record, the turnover would be ridiculous - oh wait, it already is.
I’d stick with him!

We don’t have a choice the owners love him and as long as he just puts up winning seasons he will be here I believe.

Right on Femi, but let’s face it McNabb is no Brady and McNabb was basically a running back who can throw well. I don’t know if he will be here beyond this year but that is a $$$ call and surely won’t be based on if he can play or not.

McNabb is not a problem.
Reid is not a problem.
As the saying goes, “if it aint broke, dont fix it.”
get some recievers, get a TE, shore up the D once again, and watch what Reid and McNabb could do.
Good topic.

What is broke is the same boring we dont need these players to bring home a championship………..This is a city now 25 years without a major sports title now that my flyers are taking it on the chin and soon to be elimiated.
Eagles fans want to win and spare no player or coaches feelings to express that point. Nobody here is happy really with some of the moves they made…………Time will tell.

I have to admit that just putting up winning seasons is a dangerous scenario.
Posted: 05/14/08 at 11:36 am
Don’t get me wrong I and many are happy with winning season’s but at the end of the day the eyes are still on the prize. And consistent winning without getting said prize results in unhappy fans who either what the team to win it or make the right changes in order to do so even if it’s a coaching change.

For me it’s been long enough it’s not that Reid isn’t a good coach but this team is on the down swing, terrible draft, failure to bring in key pieces when needed and an aging defense; and improving NFC, Washington, Minnesota among others.
This team is not a move here or there away from a superbowl, they are a move here or there away from an under 7 win season, the best they looked recently Garcia was your starter.
Mark my words maybe not this season, but certainly by next my whisper that this team is actually rebuilding will be a roar echoed by all of Philly.

believe me it’s already going around. in a draft where each team in our division got nice pieces and we got really nothing to hold our hats and to hear good old andy say we got guys in this draft that will help us he forgot to say that it would be a few years down the road.

I would absolutly love a winning season right about now for the Raiders! but to have most of what you need to win a championship and not get it, year after year is hard. I know, because I am a Senators fan also. To make the playoffs for the last 12 years and not win the cup for any of them is really hard to swallow.
I feel your pain!
Oh, and dont give up on your Flyers yet, miracles can happen.
(although its unlikely, but who knows.)
