Kerry Wood blew his third save of th year last night. The Cubs played a solid game with a decent outing from Zambrano, and then it was all for not as Wood blew it up.
So folks the only question I have after the series with the Brewers is would you make the early switch to Marmol or ride it out with Wood?
For the record I added Marmol to my fantasy roster this morning.

Ride wood out would be my suggesting sandy. I mean say you switch them, then Wood will just blow it sooner for you. Besides its not like he’s in the Borowski, Gagne league just yet. He’s still got decent stuff (meaning i still like him more than Dempster) and this is the longest he’s pitched injury free in awhile. Besides the division is weak enough, and the cub team is good enough to make up for the occassional Wood collapse and still run away with the division.

Hi Joseph,
Thanks for the comments. It is a tough call. Wood has looked both great and awful. Marmol has looked fantastic. Wood I thought would really thrive in this role but to this point I think he has looked more like a SP again instead of a RP. Maybe if Wood stays healthy all year he can go back to the mound full-time.
I think for the most part I agree it is too early yet to give up on Wood, that said this is a team with world series aspirations and blowing saves is not something the team wants to see much of. For fantasy purposes if you own Kerry Wood I think Marmol is a handcuff at this point. If Wood goes another 4-5 without blowing one perhaps the smoke clears at that point.

Your correct, Wood would be better as a starter. But I think we’ve learned he just can’t handle the work load. He is just starting to adjust to life as a full time reliever, so you have to expect some bumps and bruises. I think he’ll learn the beauty of relief pitching is you only need to use two pitches.
Just getting 1 inning out of Marmol is a waste if you ask me. I’d only move him to the closer spot if you have a reliever who can take over his innings or if you are in desperate need of a closer.

Bottom line is Wood can’t continue to struggle like he has thus far.
I hope he thrives in the role because I love the guy.

If he finds any sort of consistency in May and June, the Cubs will be in great shape. You have to ride it out!
